Digital verification in advanced engineering

Digital tools can help teams identify issues before manufacturing or field validation, but models are always built on assumptions. Clarifying these assumptions is a prerequisite for using the tool.
Describe model scope
Document input parameters, boundary conditions, and simplifications. The calculation results only hold true under these conditions and cannot be automatically generalized to uncovered environments.
Compare with actual observations
Check for deviations using available test or measurement data. When discrepancies are discovered, the input and measurement calibers should be checked before deciding whether to adjust the model.
Keep versions relevant
Design documents, parameters and verification results should be traceable to each other. When multiple people collaborate, it is clear which version of the result corresponds to which version of the design, which can reduce repeated verification and communication errors.
